Three’s Mini Tournaments

After the success of our initial tournaments in the spring, the executive is pleased to announce our second series of one-day threes and mini tournaments.. The tournament formats and rules encourage non-stop, fast, exciting and free flowing hockey and all clubs are encouraged to enter.

The format for the tens will be slightly different to that for the other age groups – Tens will still play with 4 players on the pad but to the same game rules and format as the threes rules.

Where and When?  - 10s and 12s will play on 14th Oct 2006, 14s on 21st Oct and the 16s on the 28th Oct at the Fife Institute, Glenrothes. The approx times for the tens and fourteens will be from 0930 to 1pm and from 1.30 to 5 pm for the 12s and 16s. These times maybe subject to slight change dependant on the number of teams entering.

Tournament format – the full and final playing schedule will be issued after all teams have entered, it is our intention to maximise the amount of matches to be played for all entering teams in the allotted time we have and obviously this will be dependent on the amount of teams entering.

It is probable the matches will be single periods of approx 6 minutes in duration with round robin leagues being set up.  Tens will play with the Ball.

Team Entry Rules
  1. Clubs can enter up to two teams per age group with a third team possibly permitted dependant on the size of their registered squad. (The club should make a case at time of entering for a third team to be registered; the executive will consider this on a case-by-case basis)

2.      All players require to be FSHA Registered

  1. Players are only allowed to play in their registered age group. No playing up is the general rule but with extenuating circumstances being considered on a case-by-case basis. Please also note the special rules for Net minders.

  1. Teams must have an official FSHA registered official on the bench with them. A maximum of two officials will be allowed on the bench.

  1. 12s, 14s & 16s - Teams require to have a minimum of four outfield players and one net minder and a maximum of five outfield players and one net minder.

  1. 10s - Teams require to have a minimum of five outfield players and one net minder and a maximum of six outfield players and one net minder.

  1. Outfield players can only be registered to play in one team for their club – once registered in a particular team; they must stay with that particular team. The only exception to this is the net minder (see below).

  1. Team Entries require to be submitted by no later than 6pm on the Sunday prior to the respective age group, i.e. 6 days prior to the tournament.  Entries must be submitted on the official form by the appropriate club contact with all FSHA registration numbers completed.

  1. Entry Fee – Each participating Team (not club) require to pay an entry fee of approx £30. This may vary dependent on the amount of teams entering. This requires to be paid on the day. The final cost will be advised on issue of the fixtures and schedule of play.

Netminder Special Rules – Net minders as we all know are a special case and can sometimes be at a premium! We would ask that all club officials consider this and keep an open mind regarding the following guidelines. These have been drawn up in the best interest of the sport to allow the tournament to take place and for the maximum amount of players to gain the experience of playing in a tournament of this style and format.

  1. Teams fortunate to have sufficient net minders within an age group to cover all the teams they are entering into the tournament should note once allocated to a team Net minders like outfield players will not be able to “swap” to any of their other club teams during the tournament.
  2. If a club is fortunate to have more net minders than teams entered into the tournament, the additional net minder can be “loaned” to play as a “guest” to another club who are short of net minders for the tournament only.
  3. If a club has only one net minder in the age group and wish to enter two teams but do have a suitable net minder in a younger age group who is capable to play up to the age group, you are permitted and encouraged to register that net minder in your additional team.
  4. If a club has only one net minder capable of playing in the age group the sole club net minder will be able to “swap” between two club teams registered. (A sole net minder will not be allowed to represent three club teams.) This may present a problem when and if these club teams have to play each other. In this case, clubs with this situation require to borrow a net minder that can be “loaned” from another Club for the one off match only.  Loans can be arranged once the fixture list is issued or on the day should the situation arise. The executive will attempt to alleviate the risk of this situation arising when arranging the fixture schedule.

Clubs are required to exercise understanding and flexibility regarding these Special Rules for Net minders and the possibility of “loaning” taking place during the tournament should the situation arise.

Game Rules – The rules of the game will as per FSHA standard rules with the following exceptions.

  1. Teams require to be ready to play at their allotted time, players arriving late will not be allowed to join the field of play (or bench) after the puck/ball has been dropped to commence the match.
  2. There will be no puck/ball warm-ups only 2 minutes for skate and stretch warm up.
  3. Players and officials should leave the pad on completion of the match without delay – there will be no handshakes or man of the matches.
  4. All matches will be running clock.
  5. No Time outs will be allowed.
  6. Penalties - When a Rule Infringement occurs; a penalty shot will be awarded to the non-offending team. All players will retreat to the half way line when the penalty shot is in progress.
  7. Standard Penalty Shot rules will apply, i.e. all players will retreat behind the half way line, The penalty shot taker must always be in control of the puck/ball, the puck/ball must be kept in forward motion and only one attempt on goal will be allowed.
  8. Players will not sit out for minor penalties. If a player commits a Major penalty (or commits 3 minor penalties) he will be required to leave the pad for the remaining time in that game. Depending on the seriousness of the incident he may not be allowed to participate in more games that day. The executive will consider the incident on its merits and further suspensions may apply for league fixtures.  A substitute player can join the field of play.
  9. Short Bench rules will not apply for 3 on 3 or mini tournaments.
  10. Goal Scoring – when a goal is scored, all players on the scoring team must retreat to their own half immediately, the team scored against will restart the match from their own goal line. (There will be no face off)
  11. Puck/Ball accidentally out of play – The referee will introduce a spare puck/Ball back into play in a neutral zone – note a face off will NOT take place.
  12. If the referee feels a team is deliberately “delaying the game” a penalty shot will be awarded against the offending team.
  13. Match stats will not be kept other than team goals scored and final results.

Tournament officials – Every team must supply a timekeeper when their team is playing.

The executive also wish to offer any interested “assistant” referees who have assisted the official referee during matches over the last couple of seasons to fully referee matches during these tournaments. This is an excellent opportunity for anybody who is interested in refereeing to try it out for real in a challenge tournament environment. Volunteer referees should be noted on the entry forms along with nominated timekeepers.
